NaPoWriMo 2014 Day #12 - morning exercise

Day #12.

Some observations in a park near my home...

morning exercise

the pigeon
folds it's wings
shakes its fat body a little
waddles a couple of steps and shakes again.
morning chill

while nearby
a group of seniors
are doing a group calisthenics
trying to move in unison, flapping their arms
imitating flight

NaPoWriMo 2014 Day #8 - echoes in the night

Day #8.

Urg! Maybe needs re-working later...

echoes in the night

the distant thud of thunder
that might have been
the last beat of your heart

in the blackness of the room

only the ticking of the clock
the slow twitch of its luminous hands
grasping the hour of the night

a shade of ghastly green

and then quite clearly from the ceiling
the sound of marbles dropping

but above that is only the rooftop...

NaPoWriMo 2014 Day #1 - the tree

Day #1.

Oh man, do I have to start with something like this?
Last Sunday, I visited a friend's grave during the Qing Ming festival. A tree around the area inspired this poem.

the tree

has this tree
grown wiser over the years
or has it become
lonely and sad
watching from the hillock
over road and cemetery
watch the old graves
and the newly dead
              lain in?

after the rain

Recently, two teenage girls were lost in a horrific car crash. The news hit uncomfortably close, as one of the victims had stayed in our apartment block. It had not rained for weeks and suddenly, on the day of the victim's funeral, the sky wept.

Shiki Kukai - longing

I wanted to submit this to the Kigo section of the February shiki kukai at haikuworld. Due to my tardiness, it missed the deadline, plus it had more than 4 lines, which is the maximum allowed under the rules. So a double red card.
